Riso Print with One-off Collage Additions - Orchid

A$120.00

Risograph prints made in 2021, re-worked with unique paper collage imagery, oil pastels, acrylic paint / acrylic gouache, gel pens and secondhand glitter in 2024.

A bit about how this work came to be:

The 3-colour risograph printed portion of this work was originally designed in 2021 for the Risographomania show curated by Ashley Ronning of Helio Press, which was held at the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in 2022. The images in this print were also included in some prepatory and final works made in 2020 for my solo exhibition, Nature Camp, exhibited at Onwards Gallery in early 2021. The decision to re-work these prints and add to their story emerged in December 2023 and reached completion in February 2024.

The more fun stuff:

When Summer rolls around, I seem to always have a very strong desire to move onto smaller, bite sized ideas that are really just reasons to play when bigger, more demanding projects have wrapped up . After a busy year I miss working with certain materials, and want to slow down for more relaxed making that is intuitive, to have the chance to discover something new.

While I initially enjoyed the outcome of these prints (calm, nature-focused), I felt they needed more. I had wanted to revisit working with oil pastels to see what they could offer, and they delivered with their creamy colours and ease of use. I also set the challenge of working only with images I had already cut out and saved. Many of these images were initially sourced for my Nature Camp exhibition but weren’t included in the final works. My method was to let my hands lead, to apply paint, pastel and imagery intuitively in a manner similar to a diary or young person’s scrapbook. Compositions and colours were considered, but not dwelled upon. Some works came together effortlessly, some required a bit more labour or revisiting. Overall, I hope these works exude a youthful exuberance and enthusiasm for colour, our natural world, and creative mark making.
