Prominent in ancient art, jewellery and both decorative and functional objects, representations of the sun have been made for thousands of years. I'm certain that I am not the only one with hundreds of images of sunrises I've taken with my camera during morning walks. Whole albums are filled with a never ending flow of gradients that emerge from the deep blacks, purples and oranges of first light, the jubilant tones of dawn, to the harsh fluorescent yellows and oranges that merge with a white hot sky as the sun continues its ascent. The simple awe of how this object can appear so differently from day to day and hour to hour is something I desired to reflect in my own way, and to share the joy of heading outside.
