Plastic Plantasia
Exhibited in Bloomin' Beauty (2017)

The Bloomin’ Beauty group exhibition and satellite event for Craft Cubed at BSIDE Gallery, Melbourne, curated by Esther Sandler. A showcase of illustration, textile and ceramic-based works by thirteen up and coming artists and designers from around Australia, on the theme of floral iconography, botanical illustration, archiving plant matter and Australian flora.

For the exhibition, I produced a series of four hand cut and assembled collages of iconic plastic 1960s chairs upturned by an abundant overgrowth of popular non-native indoor plants, against printed marbled backdrops serving as a reference to the opulent wallpaper designs that were popular in domestic settings in the same era.

To further the domestic theme, these collages were digitally printed on 100% cotton canvas, machine sewn, signed with embroidered metallic gold thread, and finished with simple wooden dowel to form hanging fabric artworks.
